PREFERENCES

If you are reading this, thank you so much for your support!

Upfront, there is nothing for me to gain from doing preferences, so the choice is entirely yours.  I would never compromise myself or sell my soul to be strategic.  Below is a totally honest list of those who I feel have qualities that should better serve our ward, with communication with residents as key.

At the forefront are candidates who are the most community minded – they are clearly Josie Jones who is more environmental & Krys Le Marshall who is president of the Chamber of Commerce (business).

I have also carefully considered those candidates who won’t listen to us, have their own agenda, are party political or have acted poorly before & during the campaign & have positioned them accordingly.

At the end of the day just put anyone anywhere you choose, this list is based on what I have observed & experienced – others may have seen differently.  Be mindful of those who have put me 7th in their preferences & question have they got the best interest of our ward at heart.

1.   Susan BISSINGER

2 & 3.  Krysten Le MARSHALL & Josie JONES

4.  Andrea ALLEN

5.  Monique TOMMS

6.  Suzanne JONES

7.  Eddie MATT

THE WHY

My entire motivation for running for re-election is simple, l have a genuine love for my community & the area we live in & feel a deep responsibility to do all I can to help maximise liveability now & in the future – not only for our families, but also for the incredible numbers of visitors who choose to come here & therefore are supporting our tourism & hospitality industries.
I have put myself out there for re-election to champion your causes & ensure your voice is heard – protecting your freedoms & way of life is a priority for me.  If selected, I will continue to be all in & will continue to not let you down.
We already have momentum, fresh ideas & a path forward, let’s keep it going!  To date with your support we have achieved what looked impossible at the start, most of which was initiated here in response to our community requests:
  • 5 Sorrento Foreshore Masterplans
  • David MacFarlan Reserve Masterplan & priority list
  • Completion of Area Plans for Portsea & Sorrento – we have Blairgowrie & Rye to go
  • Working with the RSL & community members to start works on the Sorrento Foreshore
  • Have changed the materials for footpaths to be more practical & affordable
  • Removed specs that allow plastics to be used near our marine environment
  • Summer litter issues sorted with more bins, pickups & more of the Clean Team
  • Using community feedback & support, money allocated & spent on Portsea Drainage
  • Hard fought wins with the Dogs in Public Places policy, more to go
  • Retaining character lights in our townships – ongoing
  • Monterey Cypress to Norfolk Pines, our community voice is being heard with Hotham Rd near the footy ground being confirmed.

We stand as guardians and custodians of the pointy end of the Peninsula & it has never been more crucial to protect our incredibly rich history, beauty, unique charm & character & all else we love about this place.  We have a task ahead of us to restore functionality to our area through carefully planned infrastructure.  It is vital to ensure all decisions made are in the best interest of our community & this beautiful place now & into the future.
I have always been 100% honest and shown integrity & courage even in the face of immense challenges, I am a critical thinker & problem solver who not only has an ongoing supply of fresh ideas, but is able to collaborate on everyone else’s – it is these qualities that I bring to the table & will use for the benefit of our community.
Working together, we can create a brighter future for everyone who lives here or visits here & future proof this wonderful place we all love.

AREA PLANS

& WHY THEY ARE SO IMPORTANT

Area Plans are literally “masterplans” for our townships, they are vital to ensure that we are not victims of poor decisions & prioritisation of works,  that is not in keeping with community needs or wants.

We are half way through Area Plans for the pointy end of the Peninsula, & it is imperative that they are completed & adopted /recognised by council.

After decades of neglect at the southern most part of the Peninsula – especially  compared to our northern neighbours –  never has it been more important to ensure what little money we get spent down here by council, spent right.

Through extensive consultation & residents input, I have collated a comprehensive list of vital works & have listed them in our Area Plans.

After completing local Area Plans for Portsea & Sorrento, we now have to focus on the partially completed Blairgowrie Area Plan & a new one for Rye.  I would prefer the Rye Area Plan  to be a whole of Rye which will include part of another Ward, but that is entirely up to residents to decide.

Check the completed Area Plans for Portsea & Sorrento, these documents will be updated yearly, with regular checks for any new issues arise & amendments made.

Questions
& Answers

WHO ARE YOU?

I am Susan Bissinger, a wife of 34 years & a mother of 2 adult boys, the younger one lives with us & the older one works & lives in Sydney.  My husband has always been extremely supportive of me in all my endeavours.  We are full time permanent residents of Sorrento with our array of pets (2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 turtles & a multitude of fish & feathered friends).  We absolutely love it here & have one of the best communities you could hope to find anywhere – we are privileged to be part of it.

WHAT POLITICAL PARTY ARE YOU WITH?

I am not & never have been a member of, or affiliated with any political party, as a result, I am able to focus my attention on doing everything possible to ensure the best outcome for our community.  All my decisions will be based entirely on the merit of each particular issue, not an overriding ideology & will be representative of our community.

WHAT ARE YOU AGAINST POLITICALLY?

I am unapologetically Anti Woke
I am Anti Oppression – inc. Socialism/Communism/Marxism/Dictatorships or those philosophies under any other name
I am against the removal of Personal Freedoms & instating of Government Controls by any level of Government
I am against any level of Government that Over Taxes & Over Spends
I am against any level of Government that removes Freedom of Speech & engages in Propaganda & Misinformation.
I am Anti Division – we are all equal and deserve to be treated as such.  I am against elevating some groups to the detriment of others.
I am against Racism, Sexism, Ageism & just about every other negative “ism” there is, also  against reverse Racism & Sexism as it just leads to more division, unrest & new forms of Racism & Sexism
I am against every single thing that puts our Children & Young People at any kind of risk.
I am against Extremists & Activists, influencing any level of government, especially councils.
I am against those lacking Honesty, Transparency & Integrity who wish to do us and our way of life harm from a  position of power

WHAT IS YOUR WORK HISTORY?

For the past 25+ years, my work life has been centred around the Construction Industry, with senior roles as a Designer, Project Co-ordinator, Project Manager & Procurement Manager.  I have delivered on every project I have undertaken & have never let anyone down.  As I was often called in when the situation was desperate, it is quite an achievement.  I wont bore you with some of the jobs I found incredibly exciting & the impossible projects I took on & made a success.

WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO YOU PERSONALLY?

Honesty, Integrity, Courage, my family & friends, our community, our environment, infrastructure, wildlife protection, beach erosion, local issues, social issues on a local level (inc loneliness, depression, violence in the home, youth crime etc) & helping to ensure our community is united & relatively harmonious.

WHY ARE YOU RUNNING FOR RE-ELECTION TO COUNCIL?

I am not a quitter & we have unfinished business.  We have come so far, achieved so much  & still have much to do.  Our community has completed Area Plains for Portsea & Sorrento, now looking to undertake the same with Blairgowrie (partly completed by Blairgowrie 3942) & Rye from Lyon St down – these Area Plans are vital to ensure that our needs are met & and we are not the victim of poor or inappropriate  decisions.  All  our tangible & achievable hopes, plans & dreams are captured on www.nepeanvoters.org  for easy reference.  Feedback & suggestions are always welcomed & appreciated as it keeps the website relevant

WHAT  MOTIVATES YOU TO STRIVE FOR A  BETTER COUNCIL?

Thats easy, it is the love for my Community & the area we live in – I have proven I will leave no stone unturned to get the results we need.

WHAT DO YOU THINK CAN BE ACHIEVED FOR THE SHIRE ?

It is going to take a mammoth effort & a majority of councillors will have to be on board, but I would like to see the following:

A council that is on the same page as our community focused on their needs with residents put at number one priority in all decision making.
A council that is  proactive, reactive & adaptable.
A group of Councillors that  provide true representation for their community.
A council that is respected & trusted, one that works hard to make the needs & dreams of our community come into being as their priority – nothing should be too difficult.
Good news stories on radio & in the media.
Cancellation of the 3.5% tax on new builds as a priority, as it is still being worked on by officers.
Working within the confines of the state govt housing strategy regarding homelessness rather than forfeiting ratepayers assets & resources to fund endeavours.  Advocating for rental subsidies, removal of land tax for long term rentals & control of the 1300+ social houses currently on the Peninsula so they are not sold off with money taken off the peninsula
Ratepayers money being distributed by Council fairly & in a way that best benefits our residents.
A council that Minimises division at every opportunity & does not elevate one group above another – we are all equal.
Full transparency in all council matters.
Basic funding to cover vital works in Tourist Hot Spots – especially the southern Peninsula – as Tourism is one of our major industries.
An end to the idea of paid parking on community beaches.

HOW DID YOU FIT INTO THE ROLE OF COUNCILLOR & WHAT WOULD BE DIFFERENT?

As a representative of our Community in council, I was unwavering, even under extreme pressure.  I was attacked for being politically independent & a critical thinker who asked too many questions.  I suffered a barrage of questionable charges against me that were all eventually dropped.  There were zero complaints from officers even though the CEO gave them full access to officers to find some, none also from residents, just from the 4 councillors.
Initially being a Councillor was really never something I considered or had on my agenda, yet I have been able to represent our community & unite a majority of us toward common goals, building a solid platform that I am hoping to continue.  At times I have been a cat among the pigeons, but I have been able to withstand whatever was thrown at me, hopefully the worst individuals will not be in council in 2025
